Signing an email attachment with a signature can be a lot faster. It is not necessary to print the attachment first and scan it back in signed. In this tip, we’ll show you how to easily sign a PDF from your iPhone, iPad or Mac.
How to sign a PDF on your iPhone or iPad
Contracts, tax returns, reservations or other administration: it often happens that you receive an attachment in your inbox that must be signed. The Mail app on the iPhone and iPad lets you quickly arrange this in the app itself, so that you can return the signed file immediately.
- Open the PDF file you want to sign in your Mail app;
- Press the marker icon at the top right;
- A menu will now appear at the bottom to edit the file. Press the plus sign on the right and select ‘Signature’;
- Have you ever entered a signature? Select it or create a new one. Draw your signature on the screen. It can help to tilt the screen to have more space. Click on ‘Done’ when you are done;
- The signature appears in the attachment. Drag it to the right place. By means of the blue dots around it you can enlarge or reduce the signature;
- Tap Done. If you want to email the signed file back immediately, select ‘Reply all’. To place the PDF in a new email, click on ‘New message’.
Every signature you enter to sign PDF files is automatically saved. If you have multiple Apple devices paired, it will be synced to your other devices. Do you want to sign and PDF from your iMac or Macbook? Preview has the same tool.
Sign a PDF on your Mac
- Open the attachment you want to sign in Preview;
- Click on ‘Extras’ in the menu bar. Select the option ‘Annotate’ and press ‘Signature’;
- Create a new signature or select an existing one. You can create a new signature by clicking on ‘Manage signatures’;
- Click on ‘Done’ and put the signature that appears in the file in the right place.
From your Mac you send the signed file to whoever you want. The signature you create on it is also synchronized across all your devices.
