Do I need a virus scanner on my iPhone or Mac?

Most of them do not use a virus scanner on their smartphone, but they do on the computer. Stupid, or a fair choice? This is everything you need to know about the meaning and use of virus scanners on your iPhone and Mac.

Virus scanner iPhone and Mac: must or unnecessary?

Most people use some form of security on their computer, such as a virus scanner. This kite does not apply to smartphone users. As many as 20 percent use their phone without any form of protection and 30 percent have no idea whether they have a virus scanner or not.

This has emerged from a survey by Statistics Netherlands. The consumer organization investigated whether computer and telephone users have a virus scanner on their device. The results bring back to life an old question: Do I need a virus scanner on my iPhone or Mac?

Do I need a virus scanner on my iPhone or Mac?

The short answer is No. Most Apple users do not need an additional virus scanner, because the system itself is already well protected. This is because Apple keeps tight control, and therefore has a lot of control.

This is how Apple fights malware

In addition, the underlying technology of both iOS and macOS is provided with multiple security layers, so that apps with malware, for example, cannot simply infect other programs. If a figurative fire (malware) breaks out in one room, Apple ensures that it does not just spread to the next room, by means of a ‘fire door’.

In addition, both the iPhone and Mac have some handy security tricks, including encryption. The market share of both the iPhone and Mac is also relatively small, which is an advantage in terms of security. Hackers are more likely to go for the low-hanging fruit, in this case Android and Windows, because more profit can be made here.

Prevention is better than cure

Of course, this does not mean that you are completely free as an Apple user. Any operating system can be hacked. Moreover, viruses for iPhone and Mac are also swarming around, although you will not encounter them as quickly. Moreover, you can still suffer from, for example, phishing emails or annoying pop-ups in Safari.

All in all, you probably don’t need a virus scanner on your Apple device, although of course you always run a risk. Moreover, of course, the more valuable information you have on your device, the more attractive you are to hackers.
