iOS 13 introduces a completely new Reminders app, but what improvements can you get started with later this year? We list the most important innovations for you.
1. New design with Dark Mode
The big improvement of iOS 13 is Dark Mode (or Dark Mode), which also works with the Reminders app. This gives the application a completely new look, with a dark background and a few colored buttons. The Dark Mode ensures that the Reminders app is nicer to use in the evenings. There is also a normal, light mode, but then the app mainly gets a white color.
The interface of the Reminders app has also been overhauled. As soon as you open the application, you end up at a kind of hub. There you will not see individual tasks, but an overview of your lists. At the top you can see how many tasks are scheduled for today and which ones you need to pick up later. The whole looks a lot clearer and more modern than the Reminders app in iOS 12, where your reminders and tasks were all placed under each other.
2. Quick Toolbar
Another handy improvement is the Quick Toolbar. When you add a reminder, you will see four buttons above the keyboard: time, location, a flag and the camera. For example, tap the time button to get a number of suggestions of times (such as today, tomorrow and this weekend) to link to your reminders.
You can also set that you receive the reminder as soon as you get home, get in the car or arrive at work. Finally, it is possible to add an image, such as a photo of a document, to a reminder.
3. Grouped tasks and lists
It is possible to create new lists and give them a color, after which you enter separate reminders below. You can also add subtasks to reminders by simply dragging smaller to-do’s under larger reminders.
A long to-do list is also clearer thanks to the Smart Lists function. This will automatically organize and display your upcoming reminders based on your day, priority or location. This way you are less likely to forget a job that accidentally ended up at the bottom of the list.
Also new in iOS 13
Looking for more? iOS 13 also lets you automatically block unknown callers, has some cool new features in ARKit 3, gives you the option to use Memoji and Animoji as stickers, and introduces so-called ‘optimized charging’. In our iOS 13 preview read about our first experiences with the software update. Also check the video preview below in which we discuss the most important features with you.
iOS 13 will be released later this year and will run on iPhone 6S and later. The iPhone 5S and 6 are unfortunately left out. IPadOS, the new operating system for Apple’s tablet, will also be introduced this fall. That update will soon work on the iPad Air 2 and newer.
