It can be useful or save on costs to take out a joint cloud subscription or account as partners, but of course there are also disadvantages. We list the pros and cons for you.
Sharing a cloud subscription: you need to know this
We are collecting more and more photos and files on our devices. Many people can no longer do without a cloud service, in which they can transfer all these files or make a backup to keep their data safe.

Cloud services are almost all free, but only up to a certain number of GBs of storage. With services such as Apple’s iCloud, Dropbox or Google Drive, you then pay a monthly or annual amount for more storage. It can therefore be interesting to share a cloud subscription.
These are the benefits of a shared cloud
If you both use an iPhone, iPad and / or Mac, it is ideal to use iCloud as a service. Apple’s cloud offers the option ‘Family Sharing’. This allows you to use the same iCloud storage plan with up to six people.
Keep an eye on: for this you have to take out a subscription of 200GB (2.99 euros per month) or 2TB (9.99 euros per month). Also with cloud services such as Dropbox or Google Drive you can build a cloud together by creating a joint account.

With Dropbox you get up to 2GB for free, and then you pay 9.99 euros per month for 2TB of space. With Google Drive you get 15GB for free, 100GB for 1.99 euros per month and 1TB for 9.99 euros per month. Advantageous, because you do not have to take out two subscriptions, and therefore do not pay twice.

In a relationship there are also quite a few things that you usually arrange together, such as finances, holidays, living or work-related matters or the administration of and for your children. By using a cloud together, you can safely store all this data in a central place. In addition, you can always access both via your PC, Mac, or an app on your iPhone or iPad.
These are the drawbacks of a shared cloud
There are of course also some disadvantages in sharing a cloud. In the first place, it is only interesting if you really have enough data to store together. If you only have about 50GB or less of data together, you pay a relatively high amount for a storage subscription that can store much more data.
In addition, it does need the necessary structure and organization, by agreeing what to store in which folders, for example. It is annoying if you cannot find your work presentation, because your partner has just transferred all the holiday photos.
Finally, there is the inconvenience of breaking up. Especially if you use one account with, for example, Dropbox or Google, it is quite a hassle to transfer all your personal documents to your own cloud. Another inconvenience is if you are madly in love, but can’t save airline tickets for that Valentine’s Day surprise trip in the cloud.
