Do you receive WhatsApp messages all day long? That is fun, but also distracting. In this tip, we’ll show you how to turn on silent notifications for WhatsApp so that the chat app doesn’t constantly ask for your attention.
Turn on silent notifications for WhatsApp
Do you feel like you are less productive thanks to your smartphone? That could be true. According to a recent scientific study, something relatively harmless like a WhatsApp message can be distracting for up to 20 minutes. It takes that much time to focus again on the task you were doing. Experts therefore recommend that you only check your phone regularly, instead of in between.
An ideal way to help you with this is already in WhatsApp: silent notifications. As soon as you activate this function, you will no longer receive a notification when someone sends you an app. Instead, you have to open WhatsApp yourself. In short, you raise the threshold. This is how you turn on silent notifications in WhatsApp:
- Open WhatsApp on your iPhone;
- Go to ‘Chats’ and tap on the conversation you want to mute;
- Tap on that person or his name and select ‘Mute’;
- Then choose whether you want to keep the person (or group) in question quiet for 8 hours, 1 week or even 1 year.

You can repeat the above steps per WhatsApp chat and / or group. Would you rather mute everything at once? That is also possible. To do this, go to the Settings tab of the chat app.
Then tap ‘Notifications’ and slide the toggles for ‘Show notifications’ under the ‘Messages’ and ‘Groups’ headings. Once the boxes are grayed out, you have turned on silent WhatApp notifications and are less distracted when someone sends you a message.
More productive with your iPhone
In recent years, more and more attention has been paid to smartphone addiction. Without realizing it, you probably spend a lot of time on your iPhone every day. Apple wants to do something about this with Screen Time.
This feature maps your iPhone usage. The app also provides you with tools to be more productive with your smartphone use. In addition to Screen Time, there are a few more ways to make your iPhone less addictive.
