Tip: Stream Spotify from the Mac to a Chromecast

From now on, you can stream Spotify songs from your Mac (Book) to a nearby Chromecast, such as a smart speaker. So you no longer have to turn on songs from your phone. That is how it works.

Stream Spotify from Mac to Chromecast in 5 steps

It took a while, but whoever installs the most recent Spotify update (version 1.1.38) on her or his Mac can finally stream to a Chromecast. Previously it was already possible to manage this stream and you could, for example, pause or resume the music, but for this you had to set up the song from your iPhone.

Here’s how to stream Spotify from your Mac to a Chromecast:

1. Update Spotify to the most recent version;
2. Turn on a song / album / podcast you want to listen to;
3. While listening, click on the icon containing a computer and speaker, to the right of the music bar at the bottom;
4. Tap the device you want to stream to;
5. The audio should start playing on your chosen Chromecast.

Then all audio is played through this device, until you change this. You can ‘just’ turn on new songs or albums as usual, or skip certain songs, for example. You cannot control the volume from your Mac on all devices. Do you want to stream to another Chromecast? Then open the list of available devices again and tap it.

The improvement ensures that you no longer have to bumble. Previously you could manage streams from your Mac, so for example pause and resume a song, but then you had to switch it on from your iPhone first. That is no longer necessary from now on, because you can simply turn on and manage the audio from your Mac (or Windows computer).
