The range of emoji is already large, but continues to grow. Every year, Apple adds a dose of new emoji to the iPhone keyboard. It was recently announced that no fewer than 117 new characters will be added in iOS 14.2. Due to the large selection, it can sometimes be difficult to find just that one emoji that shows exactly what you are looking for.

Fortunately, iOS 14 has a new feature for that. From now on it is possible to search for emoji by means of text. This works as follows:

  1. Open the emoji keyboard;

  2. At the top there is now a search bar with the text ‘Search emoji’;

  3. Tap the search bar and enter a keyword;

  4. Emoji related to your keyword will now appear below the bar;

  5. Tap the desired emoji to add it.

With the search function you can search in Dutch, but it is important that you have also selected a Dutch keyboard. If not, tap the globe icon on your keyboard to change the language. Unfortunately, the emoji search function does not (yet) work in iPadOS 14.

More about iOS 14

In addition to the emoji search function, iOS 14 adds many more useful functions. There is an app library and you can now give your homescreen a makeover. The iOS 14 camera app has also been upgraded. For example, you can now use burst mode with your volume button and automatically save selfies mirrored.
