3 reasons why Life is Strange is so good

In the App Store you will find many Telltale games where you make choices in stories. Life is Strange falls in the same category, but does it slightly differently.

Life is Strange on iOS

In Life is Strange you play as high school student Max. After five years, she returns to her hometown Arcadia Bay. There she soon discovers that she has a special power: turning back time. This allows her to make wrong choices again. In theory, such a power makes your life infinitely easier, but in practice it is not easy.

1. The characters

The story in this episodic game series is not only about Max, but also childhood friend Chloe. They are two excellent characters that interact well with each other. While Max is a neat girl, Chloe shits about everything. The game does have its uncomfortable sides. For example, the lips move unnaturally with the spoken texts and these teenagers are clearly written by old men who do not understand how teenagers talk. However, that does not mean that you will quickly love the characters and become invested in their journey. The excellent work of the voice actors also makes up for a lot.

2. The world

You are free to follow purely the story in the game, or to browse all the rooms and corners. That usually pays off. The world of Life is Strange is filled to the brim with references. If you look closely at, for example, the posters and license plates, you will see references to series such as Twin Peaks and True Detective. You also often learn more about the characters in the game while sniffing. It is also cool that developer Dontnod uses licensed music to make the world more alive, and that is very effective.

In this world, Dontnod discusses topics rarely seen in other games. For example, the bullying via social media, the serious consequences of sexual violence and more. The game can get pretty intense.

3. The choices

Just like in the Telltale games, you have to make choices in Life is Strange. Since you can turn back time, you can choose to look at the different short-term consequences. However, you never know what the long-term consequences will be. There are a lot of consequences to your choices, so think carefully.
