Philips has just released its biggest update for the Hue app in a long time. From now on, you can operate the smart lamps from Philips in a whole new way, with some new functions.
Hue app completely renewed with version 3.0
Philips has done its best to make the Hue app a bit easier in daily use. The app looks completely different, with a stylish black design that makes the bright colors of the Hue lamps stand out a lot better.
In addition, the scenes have been overhauled. Thirty new preset scenes are waiting for you, which can give a room a specific color combination at the touch of a button. Even more fun is the option to create a scene yourself based on a photo from your Camera Roll. For example, choose that one holiday snapshot with a setting sun and all the lights in your room mimic exactly that color.
In addition to the new lick of paint and improved scenes, many small adjustments have been made. This makes it easier to quickly change the color of the lamps in your room. Once you’ve found a perfect color, you can choose it a lot more easily from the shortcut menu above the color picker.
All these features make the Hue app significantly more useful than it was before. Since you can also control Philips smart lights from Apple’s Home app, those specific functions were desperately needed to make Hue’s iOS app special again.

The Philips Hue 3.0 update will be gradually available from the App Store. It may therefore take a while until the update is there for you, but we can now get started with the editorial staff of iPhoned. In addition to this major app update, Philips has more big plans for its smart lamps in 2018. For example, it will soon be possible to synchronize lamps with games, movies and music.

As long as one party supports this, the lamps continuously color with what is happening on your TV, which should ensure a more intensive viewing experience. This option will also come to the Mac and Windows in the second half of the year, so that everything that happens on your screen can be seen in the colors of your lamps.
