The week is over and that means that a fresh app overview is waiting for you! As far as we are concerned, you should not miss these new apps, games and updates. You can find the best iOS apps of week 25 (2018) here.
The best iOS apps at a glance
The App Store works overtime every week to handle the never-ending stream of new apps and updates. However, you will hardly notice this, because only a small part of it is worth installing. If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch can use some new apps, you’ve come to the right place.
1. Microsoft News
Microsoft, Google and Apple now all have their own app that bundles the most important news for you. However, Apple News is (still) not available in the Netherlands and therefore less relevant for Dutch iPhone users. Microsoft chooses to convert the outdated MSN News into Microsoft News, an app that basically does the same as Google’s new app. When you start the application for the first time, you indicate what your interests are, and then the app selects the news that is relevant to you every day.
This is all done through machine learning, which analyzes and assesses more than 100,000 news articles per day based on topic, popularity and current affairs. In addition, there is a global team of 800 curators who manually select the top stories and serve them to you. In the Netherlands, the app uses numerous major news media such as NU.nl, ANP and RTL Nieuws.
2. Pokémon GO
After two years, the time has finally come: trading in Pokémon GO is now possible. To exchange pocket monsters, you must first make contact with other players. All of this works through Pokémon GO’s new Friends List, where you can add people with special Trainer Codes. Each player has a unique six-digit code, which you share with your friends to add each other.
If you have added a friend, they will appear in your friends list. This will enable a number of new things that weren’t previously in Pokémon GO. For now, the maximum of the friends list is 200.
3. Dialogue
Many people dream of writing a movie script one day. Few actually put their money where their mouth is, and that is a shame. After all, if you never try, you know for sure that it will not work. Dialogue therefore lowers the threshold, so that everyone can write their own film. The first thing that strikes you about the app is its simple, yet well-thought-out appearance. Dialogue lives up to its name and looks like a chat conversation. Writing dialogues is therefore very easy.
The app automatically switches characters so that you can continue writing. At the top of the keyboard you can see from which person you are now telling: switch by pressing another icon. Finally, you can even use your own voice during the writing process: Dialogue has a speech-to-text function.
4. Film1
Thanks to a new subscription, Film1 can now be used as a separate streaming service. The service focuses on new movies such as Blade Runner 2049, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Baby Driver, which can be viewed on-demand. About 300 films are available at launch and the range is expanded every week. The new service can be used free of charge for one week and then costs 7.99 euros per month.
With the new subscription, a new iOS app is also launched. Via the application you will soon be able to watch the entire range on your iPhone, or stream movies to a Chromecast or via AirPlay. This means that films can also be checked on the large screen of your television. Existing Movie1 subscribers will also get the new options and can also take advantage of the improved app.
