The 4 best iOS apps in the App Store from week 5 – 2019

The week is over and that means a fresh app overview is waiting for you! You should not miss out on these new apps, games and updates. The best iOS apps of week 5 can be found here.

The best iOS apps at a glance

The App Store is working overtime every week to process the endless stream of new apps and updates. However, you hardly notice this, because only a small part is worth installing. If your iPhone or iPad could use some new apps, you’ve come to the right place.

1. Fortnite

Good news for avid Fortnite fans: the popular game now also supports controllers for smartphone players. The free Fortnite 7.30 update adds the support. Unfortunately, you can only connect MFi controllers to your iPhone or iPad. These are accessories that are approved by Apple and are therefore ‘Made for iPhone’.

Developer Epic Games has not indicated whether players with a controller can only play among themselves, or whether they also encounter touchscreen players. In theory you aim much more precisely with a controller and you therefore have a big advantage.

2. Memento

The already existing reminder app Reminder has been completely revamped by the developers and renamed Memento. Now it is also the best task app for your Apple devices. The app syncs with the standard Reminders app and iCloud, has a handy Apple Watch app, and a lot of thought has gone into ease of use and functional notifications.

In addition, the app has a dark mode and a clear design, inspired by the HomeKit control in the Home app. You can keep track of not only work or study tasks, but also a list of films that you still want to see in the coming month.

3. Alien: Blackout

Alien: Blackout is the successor to the PC and console game Alien: Isolation, and is released exclusively for smartphones. The game is just a little different. The aim of Alien: Blackout is to help others avoid the alien, rather than protect yourself from it.

You obviously need some nerves of steel for the game, because the Alien game is full of excitement and action. Look through the spaceship through cameras and send your energy to different doors. Next, you have to guide people in the right way so that they do not fall into the clutches of the alien.

4. Gmail

Google is busy giving all its apps the same Material house style. This time it’s Gmail’s turn. After you update the Gmail app, you’ll probably notice right away that the bar at the top is no longer red, but transparent. In addition, the search box has been moved to the center. From now on you can switch accounts by clicking on the photo on the right.

Nothing has been changed in the menu structure. The app now feels a lot fresher and clearer due to more use of white space. You can choose from two display types in addition to the standard version: comfortable and compact. The former increases the distance between emails and gives you more white space. This makes the app feel even lighter.
