Apple’s own Assignments app has a row of new and expanded shortcuts that you can set. The app now allows you to create even more Siri Shortcuts.
Assignments app update: offer has been expanded
With iOS 12, Apple added a new dimension to its voice assistant: Siri Shortcuts. These commands make Siri a lot smarter and more convenient, although you do have to do something yourself. The Assignments app allows you to set numerous sequences of actions. You can then control these with Siri using sentences or action words that you come up with yourself.
You can build such an assignment yourself, but the app also offers an extensive range of ready-made shortcuts in the Gallery tab. In both cases, you can now count on even more options.
Notes support
For example, support for the Notes app has been added. Now you can add tasks like Create Note, Add to Note, Search Notes, and Show Note to an assignment. You can also quickly extract amounts or telephone numbers from a text thanks to the new task ‘Retrieve numbers from input’. This retrieves numbers from the text you select.
You can also set up shortcuts that tell you how long you are on the road or what time you have to leave to be on time. The task ‘Get travel time’ now provides more details. Then you immediately know the name of the route, the arrival time and the distance.
Finally, Apple has added a very small but useful improvement that should make navigating your Library easy. Tapping the Library tab will automatically scroll to the bottom of your command list. This way you don’t have to scroll to get to a shortcut.
Build Siri Shortcuts yourself
Assignments is an apparently simple app, but it gives you endless possibilities to use Siri smartly. By linking a list of tasks to Siri via a voice command, you can quickly get a route home, get the latest news or hear what time you have to leave for your next appointment.
You can easily build these shortcuts yourself, or view our examples. Siri Shortcuts are also supported by a growing number of apps. Check with which apps you can use Siri Shortcuts, among other things.
