Best iOS Games April 2019
An old acquaintance rolls in this month in our list of the best games of April. The Elder Scrolls is also expanding to smartphones and the new game from the maker behind You Must Build a Boat is playable. What are you going to play?
1. The Elder Scrolls: Blades
The Elder Scrolls: Blades may not be what you expect from a The Elder Scrolls game. You are not presented with a large, open world in which you are free to do what you want. However, game maker Bethesda wants to expand its game brand with more types of games. For example, the card game The Elder Scrolls: Legends appeared a few years ago and now you can get started with The Elder Scrolls: Blades.
Blades focuses on completing quests in defined areas of the world with limited freedom of movement. Still, it’s a fun game to play, with a city you build, characters you meet, and more. The game is free, but to open chests in the game you have to wait or hand in diamonds. Those diamonds cost real money. Read more about the game in our The Elder Scrolls: Blades review.
2. Photographs
Gameplay can be used in beautiful ways to tell a story. The game Florence is the best example of this. The new game Photographs (from the maker behind 1000000 and You Must Build a Boat) does it in its own way, with puzzles that, for example, show the relationship between characters. This happens in a series of stories, each with its own type of puzzle. The result is a nice, heartwarming game.
3. Rolando: Royal Edition
Do you remember Rolando? This game appeared in 2008 and was one of the first hits for the iPhone. This platform puzzle game used just about every ability of the original iPhone to move balls in the game. Players had to tilt, tap and swipe. The makers have now completely polished the game and made it suitable for the larger smartphones of 2019. And guess what? The game is still fun!
4. Poly Island
Poly Island is a puzzle game for when you want something really relaxing. You actually make a kind of coloring pages, without having to color. You drag the puzzle pieces to the correct box until the picture is complete. Sometimes you can place the resulting character on your own digital island. The game is not much more, but that is not necessary.
5. OCO
OCO is an original puzzle game that only requires a single finger. Levels consist of a rotating disc full of platforms. You are a white block in it that can only jump. Your goal is to get all the yellow cubes without falling down. How that works in practice becomes immediately clear when you see the game in motion.
