The best iOS apps at a glance
The App Store is working overtime every week to process the endless stream of new apps and updates. However, you hardly notice this, because only a small part is worth installing. If your iPhone or iPad could use some new apps, you’ve come to the right place.
1. Game of Thrones Guide
The eighth season of Game of Thrones has finally aired. It’s not surprising if you can’t remember all the storylines from Game of Thrones after all those seasons. The Game of Thrones Guide app helps you get back up to date with the hit series. Hundreds of characters are explained in the guide, there is an interactive map and over 300 exclusive photos to view.
The app lends itself to both the book and the TV series. There is also a special anti-spoiler button, so that the book doesn’t tell you anything. The Game of Thrones Guide can be downloaded for free in the App Store, but you still have to pull out your wallet for all content.
2. Flash Master
If you have Flitsmeister open, it is no longer necessary to walk to a parking meter or open a separate parking app when you park your car somewhere. The app now supports paid parking. When you park somewhere, the app recognizes whether you are stationary in a parking zone and asks whether you want to start a parking action.
If you drive away after a while, you will be asked if you want to stop the parking action. This way you don’t forget to stop parking again and you never pay too much. You then pay the amount due for paid parking directly from the app. This can be done via credit card or direct debit.
3. PGA Tour Golf Shootout
Just as golfing legend Tiger Woods has successfully made his comeback, developer Concrete Software is releasing the brand new game PGA Tour Golf Shootout to the App Store. Go after Woods by taking on other users of the sleek golf game. Golf Shootout has a career mode in addition to this online mode.
Participate in tournaments and unlock all kinds of exclusive golf clubs by winning points. Or create a clubhouse with your friends and play against each other in duels. In addition, you get all kinds of extra challenges every day that earn you points, so practice on your hole-in-one!
4. Facebook Messenger
Facebook Messenger now officially has a dark mode, which displays all your chats in the dark. It’s the latest addition to a heavily redesigned Messenger. The way of navigating has already been changed before.
Facebook already released dark mode a month ago as a species easter egg, but now the feature is officially available. You can switch on the mode by tapping your profile icon and turning the slider behind the Dark Mode option at the top to green.
5. Sift
The news is always thundering and journalists often work under time pressure. This ensures that there is less and less room for analysis and background pieces. Sift wants to solve that problem.
The new app does not tell the latest news, but the story behind it. When the newspapers talk about a possible firearms ban in America, Sift dives into the archives to explain how the current situation came about. Experts are then brought in and the comparison with other countries is made.
