For example, you can post an extensive opinion piece on Medium, publish an interview, but also put a short poem online. In addition to being a writing app in the broadest sense of the word, Medium is also a social network. Almost every genre has an active community behind it. Members provide each other with valuable feedback.

On Medium you mainly read articles in English. There are also Dutch pieces on it, but the range is significantly less. However, this also offers opportunities, because thanks to the lack of competition, your piece stands out sooner. You can also earn money by writing through Medium, although you have to type English articles for that.

2. Scrivener

Are you planning to write a complete book? Then Scrivener is a good writing app. This application is a lot more extensive than Medium and has everything you need to get a solid manuscript on paper. Scrivener is used by professional writers, academics and screenwriters, among others.

However, you probably don’t write a book completely via an app. Scrivener is happy too available for macOS. You can try the app for free for 30 days, after that you have to pull the wallet.

3. The Brainstormer

The Brainstormer is a writing app for typing. Everyone runs into a weleens writer’s block and this application tries to present you with original angles at such a time.

The Brainstormer does this in a beautiful way, because you have to spin three different wheels: plot, theme and location. The app then gives you fun combinations to get the story going again. Unfortunately, the app is only available in English.

4. Wattpad

Like Medium, Wattpad is a writing app to publish your story, but in book form. The app provides you with the tools to write, edit and then publish your own book. The makers also organize fun events for the active community, such as WattCon. Unfortunately, this conference for aspiring writers only takes place in America.

You can, however, connect with other writers via the Internet and join the Wattpad community. Since then, the writing app has spawned several success stories. Well-known Wattpad authors such as Nikki Kelly and Anna Todd have signed a deal with a publisher via the app/website.
