With this new official app, you can easily manage your 2020 tax return with the help of your iPhone. We show how it works.
Tax return 2020 app: that’s how it works
For years you can file your tax return in two ways: via the website of the Tax Authorities, or with the tax return app designed by the Tax Authorities. The app has only one function: to let you fill in the necessary information in as few steps as possible.
The Tax return app helps you step by step with filing your tax return. When you start the app for the first time, you create a PIN code. The app also supports Face ID for security. You then log in with your DigiD, after which the app automatically fills in as much information as possible for you. The app does this by looking at your previous declaration, which can save you a lot of time.
In addition to an iPhone app, Declaration 2020 also supports the iPad. Handy if you prefer the larger screen to read your data again. Please take the time to check this information carefully. Is there something that isn’t right? Then you must submit your tax return via the website of the Tax Authorities (link). Are all data correct? Then you can submit your declaration directly from the app.
Normally you had to download a new app every year, but that will change in 2021. From now on, the Tax Return app will be updated annually, so you can continue to use the same app.
Major outage makes app unusable today
The app can be used from today, but that did not go completely smoothly. Due to a malfunction, it was not possible to use the app for most of the morning. At the time of writing, the app is slowly starting up again, but keep in mind that you may run into some error messages today.
As you can see in the tweet from the Tax Authorities above, you have until May 1 to submit your tax return.
