The week is over and that means a fresh app overview is waiting for you! You should not miss out on these new apps, games and updates. The best iOS apps of week 2 can be found here.
The best iOS apps at a glance
The App Store is working overtime every week to process the endless stream of new apps and updates. However, you hardly notice this, because only a small part is worth installing. If your iPhone or iPad could use some new apps, you’ve come to the right place.
1. Temp Mail
Sometimes you have to enter your email address on a website, after which your inbox is bombarded with spam and nonsensical messages. This problem solves Temp Mail. The iOS app gives you a temporary email address so your “real” inbox stays clean. It is therefore an ideal solution for dealing with newsletters, bots and questionable websites.
You can also download messages if the information turns out to be valuable after all. In reality, you will mainly use Temp Mail for companies or websites that you have to deal with once. For example, many people use disposable mail to subscribe to newsletters to get a one-time discount code, without being tied to the mailing.
2. Google Maps
Google Maps is still the most popular navigation app on the iPhone, and the latest update will only increase that further. Now that the Assistant has been incorporated into Google Maps, it replaces the microphone icon you used to say a street or place name. From now on, press this button to open a small window at the bottom of the screen, in which the Google Assistant shows that it is listening.
With this you can, for example, adjust your navigation route, play music or start a podcast. Due to the limitations of iOS, it is unfortunately not possible to send a message this way via WhatsApp or another messaging service. You can, however, ask the Assistant to send someone in your address book what time you will arrive at your destination.
3. Squad
There is no shortage of social media apps, but how ‘social’ are they really? Usually you are still on your own scrolling through someone else’s timeline or profile. The new Squad app puts an end to this by sharing your iPhone screen with friends. The idea is simple: with the push of a button, your friends, or squad, see everything that happens on your screen.
The possibilities are endless. For example, you can immediately ask for advice when purchasing a new pair of pants, gauge the reactions to a Tinder match or watch a video on YouTube together. In addition, the app is also used in other ways, such as homework help or technical support.
4. WhatsApp
WhatsApp has released another nice update, so that you can now privately reply to others in group conversations. Tap and hold the message in a group chat you want to reply to privately. Then tap ‘More’ in the menu that appears and then choose ‘Private answers’. This will open the message from the group conversation as a reply in a private conversation with the sender.
In the most recent version of the app, it is now also possible to add stickers or emoji to a photo or video while editing. The third new feature is a status preview using 3D Touch.
