Into The Dim
Unlike other roguelike games, the level design in Into The Dim is always the same. So you know where the enemies are walking and where you can grab coins. While you’ll be quick to die the first few times, you can use your memory to navigate the world more and more easily.
In terms of movement, the game also does something different. At the top of the screen is the number of lives you have, with filled dots below. That’s the number of steps you can take before the enemies start to move. It takes some getting used to this system, but also to how enemies move. After a while, however, you start to recognize patterns and you learn to understand Into The Dim better.
Better
The game is therefore a bit for go-getters. The first few times you will die quickly as mentioned, but like in a real roguelike game you will get better soon. Enemies can be a bit unpredictable, but you can respond to them somewhat. Along the way you also collect coins, which you can use after you die to improve weapons or health, for example. In total you can collect up to five hearts and fill six movement dots. Once you get that far, the game gets a lot easier. You can improve yourself with in-app purchases, but with a little patience you can go a long way.
You will also find tools in the levels. For example, you can run into a box of bullets to refill your pistol (which you can use to shoot enemies from a safe distance). If you die, you can choose to continue playing by watching an ad video. However, you can also stop and try again immediately.
Old and new
Into The Dim is of course immediately noticeable because of its little colored appearance, which looks like you are playing a Gameboy game. In any case, we think it looks beautiful. In this way, it combines a new kind of gameplay with a classic visual style.

Into The Dim is not a game for everyone, but it is a very entertaining game for when you have nothing to do. You go out into the world, look for coins, build your figure and when you die, you try again with stronger equipment. Eventually you will know how to go through levels and you will progress.
