The sound quality of your computer depends on several factors: the class of the headphones, the speakers and the software you use. Of course, nothing beats high-quality headphones or high-end speakers, but Windows 10 itself also has built-in audio enhancements that are worth your while.
Spatial sound
You get access to the group of sound enhancements in the Institutions. The shortest way there is still Win+I. From there you go to System and then open the setting in the left column Sound. Optionally, you can also right-click in the system tray in the lower-right corner of the screen and then click the Sound settings to open.
In the box Choose your output device select the headphones or speakers that matter. Click on the text Device properties under that box. This opens a new page that already contains some options for the selected output device. Here you can do it Spatial sound enable that simulates a more realistic experience.
Bass Boost
Continue in the right corner Additional device features to select. That way you will come to a new window with several tabs. The options available depend on the audio device you are using and the drivers you have installed.
If available, choose the tab Enhancements to enable improvements. The choice Bass Boost boosts the lower frequencies. If you activate this option, you can Settings specify how much you want to raise the bass. For us, an increase to 9 Db gave a good result.
Virtual surround and more
Virtual Surround gives the effect of audio coming from multiple directions, not just left and right, even if the headphones don’t support surround.
The option Room Correction is usually available on surround sound speaker systems. This starts the chamber calibration wizard. This tool will play a series of tones to pick up with the microphone. In this way it analyzes Room Correction the data to recommend the best settings for your setup.
And then there’s Loudness Equalization which evens out the differences between the highest point and the lowest point of the sound. That way, very loud sounds are not so overwhelming and soft sounds are pulled up.
