Developed at a time of various limitations, the Brain Foundation has released the Walking Walk app.

Review Walking tour: support your daily walk

The goal: to support you in taking a daily walk ‘to keep the brain fit’.

The app is based on a competition element. For example, we prominently find a ranking in which you see the performance of other participants. For each walking tour you can win points and medals. To encourage you, the app uses a coach who also gives you tips. In the dashboard we also find a series of facts and background information. The app also encourages walking in a team. You can join an existing team or set up your own team and compete with each other.

In our use, the app worked accurately, but on the download page we come across user reviews mentioning walks that are not recorded. Hopefully the makers will pick it up soon. Also, it’s a bit odd that you earn points by sharing your walking tour via social media. Although that is capped at 3x a day, that is not completely watertight for those who want to finish high in the ranking at all costs.
