Google is working on a new gesture for Nest Hub 2. With the new Soli Quick Gestures, you can browse photos without touching the device.
Motion Sense
Soli Quick Gestures have been used by Google for a long time. Motion scanners are an increasing part of the company’s smarthome lineup. Google calls it Motion Sense, but actually it’s Soli radar technology. Pixel also uses it.
From two to three Quick Gestures
That technology can currently recognize two Quick gestures. If you want to pause or resume music or movies, just tap in the air just in front of the Nest Hub 2 screen. If you want to turn off your alarm in the morning or while cooking, just swipe in the air (left or right) the ability to snooze or silence alarms.
So the third gesture is all about scrolling through photos. You will do that later by swiping your hand in the air, but then when you are in the photo software. Think of Google Photos or the Gallery.
May not be live yet
At the moment, the new capability does not appear to be live and it is unknown when it will be. 9to5Google spotted the new ‘browse photos’ feature in the Quick Gestures menu when swiping, but it seems to be just text for now. Several tests showed that the capability is not yet live.
It is hoped that swipe gestures will be implemented in more ways. Think, for example, of skipping songs on Spotify or forwarding and rewinding videos. But now first the gesture to be able to browse through photos to see it working.
Google Nest Hub 2 has been for sale in the Netherlands since May. Do you have a Nest Hub 2 and can you already browse through photos with a wave of your hand in the air? Let us know in the comments.
