Oppo recently launched the Oppo Reno 6 Pro 5G and it promises a lot in terms of specifications. Read the review of the Oppo Reno 6 Pro 5G here to see if that is the case.
Oppo has now become a well-known name for many more people, including as a sponsor of football clubs such as FC Barcelona and FC Utrecht and also tennis tournaments. But of course it’s about their fine smartphones, such as the Oppo Reno4 Pro we tested and now the new Oppo Reno6 Pro is up for testing. Read in this review whether it is interesting for you.
Design and housing
The Oppo Reno6 Pro looks nice thanks to the curved screen that is rounded in the corners. The edges are also curved and they run all the way to the back. Incidentally, the back is made of several layers of glass, while the housing is made of aluminum. Our test device is in the color Arctic Blue, in addition, the Reno 6 Pro is also available in Lunar Gray (moon gray). With both devices, those colors can change slightly depending on the incidence of light, in addition, Oppo has provided the back with Oppo Glow so that it looks like the back has a snow crystal layer.
At the bottom of the device is a USB-C connection, the SIM card slot and the speakers. The two volume buttons are on the left and the power button is on the right. Are you used to like me? The cameras are located on the back and just like with the Reno4 Pro, for example, the camera group protrudes slightly, but that is corrected by the supplied black or transparent silicone cover. This camera module is located at the top left, just like with practically all smartphones. Finally, at the front, there is of course a hole in the display for the selfie camera, so that you can take selfies. No 3.5mm headphone jack, so also no micro-SD slot for inserting a micro-SD card. If you want to unlock the device, you can do that via Face Unlock and the fingerprint sensor in the screen, both of which function well.
Screen
The Oppo Reno6 Pro has a 6.55-inch curved amoled screen (2,400 by 1,080 pixels, 90Hz), slightly larger than the regular Oppo Reno 6 with its 6.43-inch screen. Excellent specifications and that is also reflected in the vivid colors, brightness and good contrast. Thanks to the high refresh rate of 90 Hz, scrolling is nice and smooth.
In terms of display settings, you can adjust the color temperature, screen color mode and color gain. And of course there is the option for Eye Comfort which reduces the blue light from the screen and thus reduces eye strain.
It is nice that the screen of the Oppo Reno 6 Pro supports HDR10 + and is also HD and HDR certified for Netflix and Prime Video, so you can see films and series optimally.
Processor, memory and battery
We also see excellent specifications in terms of processor with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870, 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage memory. You should be able to handle the latter, also because there is no micro-SD slot in it. Of course you will also find plenty of storage online. The battery is larger with a capacity of 4,500 mAh than that of the Oppo Reno4 Pro with its 4000 mAh battery.
In use, the Reno6 Pro is an economical device and you can get through the day without any problems. Charging is also a party thanks to the included 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 Flash Charge, because your phone is 100% again within half an hour. Unfortunately, you cannot charge this smartphone wirelessly and that is a loss.
Cameras
The camera group in Oppo smartphones is often an innovative part and that is no different with this Reno6 Pro. For example, the Oppo Reno6 Pro has the same main camera that we see with the high-end Oppo Find X3 Pro with a 50MP Sony IMX 766 sensor.
Furthermore, it has a 16 MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a 13 MP telephoto lens, a 2 MP macro lens and the selfie camera is equipped with 32 MP.
Thanks to Oppo’s excellent camera software, you can take good sharp photos and you can also see that in the photos under lesser lighting conditions, although that is slightly less with the ultra-wide-angle lens. If we look at the telephoto lens, then zooming in 10x, just like with many other devices, is a bit too much in terms of results: the photos then become a bit blurry and grainy. Tip: zooming in 5x gives you a better result. You have a nice depth of field for taking selfies.
The AI Portrait capabilities are new and get sharp foregrounds and blurred backgrounds. You get stable videos via the Ultra Steady Video and the Reno6 Pro also has a good night mode for photo and video, a Pro Expert mode and slow motion. In short, good camera performance with many possibilities.
Software and Features
The operating system is Android 11 with Oppo’s specific ColorOs shell which has since been updated to V11.3. This gives it a more personal, user-friendly and intuitive approach. I like the Personal Settings where you can switch between themes and set the colors and display size.
The policy for major Android updates at Oppo is limited to 2 years after introduction, so you can also expect Android 12 and 13. Fortunately, you get security updates for 3 years.
Conclusion
Given the beautiful screen and the other good specifications, as well as the experiences in the test period, we can heartily recommend this phone. You get a nice device with an excellent screen, the cameras are also fine with excellent image quality and plenty of options and it is also nice and fast. Add to that the very fast charging and Oppo’s own shell, and you have a great device in your hands.
