Chrome sync no longer works with these old versions of Chrome

Are you still using a very old browser that you really shouldn’t be using? Do you not dare to update it because you are afraid that something will change? Then Google will make the decision for you.

What is Chrome Sync?

As you can read in this article, Google Sync allows you to save your browsing history, bookmarks, themes, open tabs, passwords and more sync with other devices. You can then easily continue on another device where you were pointed out.

Google has now on its Chrome Helpforum announced that it will stop supporting Google Sync for version 48 of Chrome and older. If you are still using one of these ‘vintage’ versions, Google’s Sync service will no longer work. Everything you do in the old version of Chrome will then no longer be saved and synced with one of your other devices. If you also use a new version, that data will not be exchanged with the older version.

That’s how old Chrome 48

Of course, this move shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. Chrome 48 was released in 2016 and that is five years. In those five years, our digital world has changed a lot, and Google can no longer support the old version for many reasons. Unless you’re using a very old operating system like Windows XP, which supports up to Chrome 49 anyway. Then you really have no excuse.

  5. click on Restart.

Chrome saves the open tabs and windows for you. When you restart the browser, they will open again automatically. Your incognito windows will not reopen when Chrome is restarted. If you’d rather not restart right away, click Not Now. The update will be applied the next time you restart your browser.

Which version of Chrome do you use on your PC and on your phone? Let us know in the comments at the bottom of this article.
