Send large files with WeTransfer

Send large files easily via the free web service WeTransfer. You can send files up to 2 GB in one go.

People are often allowed to send only 5 or 10 MB of files from their mail program at a time. Via WeTransfer you can share up to 2 GB of documents, photos, videos, presentations and other files. It doesn’t matter if it’s one very large file or many small ones, as long as it stays under 2 GB. And if this is not enough, then there is the paid version WeTransfer Pro. With this you can send up to 20 GB at a time for 12 euros per month (price of April 2020).

Using the free version is easy. No registration is even required:

  • Go to wetransfer.com
  • click on Add files.
  • The Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) opens. Select the files you want to send.
  • click on To open.
  • The selected files will be listed. Click the plus sign at the bottom of the list to add more files. Scroll down if necessary.
  • Click in the box Email to and type the recipient’s email address. You can mail to a maximum of three addresses at the same time.
  • Click in the box your e-mail adress and enter your own email address. This allows the recipient to see from whom he receives the files and, if necessary, to reply.
  • If necessary, write an explanation in the ‘Message’ box. This is sent with the files.
  • click on Send.
  • WeTransfer may send you an email to verify that your email address is correct. Open the email from WeTransfer and enter the verification code on the web page. click on verify.

The progress of the upload is visible in percentage and remaining time. The recipient will receive an email with the link to the files and your message. WeTransfer keeps the files for seven days. The files must be downloaded within that time, after which they are no longer available.

Do you want to send more files? Which can. The screen now shows a button ‘Create a free account’, but this is not necessary. Press the F5 key to refresh the page and you will return to the home page.

You can also choose to create a download link instead of an email. Handy if you don’t have someone’s email address, but only contact via WhatsApp, SMS or social media.

  • Add files in the same way as described above.
  • Click on the three dots next to ‘Send’.
  • Put a check in Get transfer link.
  • click on Create my link.
  • The files are uploaded. This may take a while.
  • click on copy link.
  • Paste the link in a message or email and send it as usual.

click on Send more? > Further to create a download link for other files. Or close the window with a click on the cross.
