Make sure a MacBook’s built-in trackpad turns off automatically when a separate mouse or trackpad is connected.
Built-in trackpad
On an Apple MacBook, there is a trackpad under the keyboard. This is the plane on a laptop that controls the mouse pointer. Touching the face and dragging your finger moves the mouse. Sometimes a separate mouse or trackpad works better. It is then possible to disable the built-in control. As a result, the cursor on the screen is only operated with the mouse. Then, if you accidentally move the trackpad, nothing will happen on the screen.
Turn off trackpad
Set the built-in trackpad to be disabled when another mouse or trackpad is connected. As soon as this external mouse is disconnected again, the built-in trackpad will work again.
- Click the Apple logo in the top left.
- click on System Preferences.
- click on Accessibility.
- In the left pane, click Pointer Control.
- Put a tick in front of Ignore built-in trackpad when mouse or wireless trackpad is connected.
Do you still want to keep the trackpad active when a separate mouse is connected? Then repeat the above steps and remove the check mark at the last step.
