Always secure the phone or tablet with, for example, a code or fingerprint. A lock prevents people from just getting into your device.
A lock on the iPad or iPhone
Unlocking a device can usually be done with a numerical code, fingerprint or face scan. Some people find unlocking a hassle, but it is important to have a ‘lock’ on the device. Otherwise, anyone who can get hold of the device can also use it. All emails, apps and other data are then accessible.
Lock screen with code
Securing the iPad or iPhone with a code is easy. Read here how to do this.
Fingerprint lock
You can also choose to unlock your device with your fingerprint. Set up security with fingerprint(s) as follows:
- Tap on Institutions.
- Tap on Touch ID and Passcode.
- Tap the slider behind “iPad Unlock” or “iPhone Unlock” so it turns green.
- A message appears. That is the go-ahead to register your fingerprint. Place your thumb or other finger on the home button.
- A drawing shows the extent to which your fingerprint has been read. Place your thumb or finger on the home button again a few times until all the lines are colored red.
- Tap on Continue.
- The edges of your thumb or finger should also be read. Again, place your thumb or finger on the home button, and try to make the edges touch the home button as well.
- Tap on Continue.
- Think of an access code and enter it.
- Enter the password for your Apple ID and tap Login.
- Do several people use the iPad or iPhone? Then tap Add a fingerprint and go through the above steps again.
The lock is set. From now on, place your thumb or finger on the home button to unlock.
Lock with Face ID
The latest iPhones no longer have the round home button. That makes it impossible to use a fingerprint as a lock. Set up Face ID (facial recognition) on these devices.
