Not Samsung or Xiaomi, but Motorola will soon be the first to use a new 200 MP camera in its smartphones, according to rumors. The camera sensor in question is Samsung-made and was introduced this summer. It is not clear which Moto gets the credit.
Motorola and 200MP camera
Samsung is first known as a maker of telephones, but the company also invests heavily in parts that it sells to competitors. Think of smartphone screens, chipsets, but also cameras. For example, Samsung’s 108 MP camera came first in the Xiaomi Mi Note 10.
It seems that this time not Samsung or Xiaomi will be the first to use the new ISOCELL HP1 sensor with 200 MP in a phone. This sensor made by Samsung is coming according to the rumor Ice Universe first in a Motorola phone. It is not yet clear in which Moto the brand new sensor is used. Renders of a Motorola Edge 30 Ultra flagship have already been leaked in the previous weeks, but it would appear with a 50 MP camera.
Ice Universe also adds to its claims that Xiaomi will also start working on the camera next year, but only in a phone that appears in the second half of 2022. Samsung will also implement its own sensor in a device, but that will not be the case until 2023. The camera will also not be planned for that upcoming series, according to the rumors about the Galaxy S22.
Profiling with flagships
In any case, it is a good thing for Motorola that the brand can be the first to get started with the new ISOCELL HP1 sensor. Motorola wants to profile itself again as a manufacturer that also makes good flagships. The brand made that clear in a recent interview with Androidworld.
“Flagships are necessary for the story of your brand and of course we do not only want to be known for our midrange devices, but we want to be able to offer a device for every consumer,” Ruben Weenink told our editorial team in August. Weenink is General Manager Mobile Business Group at Lenovo Benelux.
