
Each keyboard has the keys F1 to F12. Those are the Function keys. They all have their own function.
What are Function Keys?
The keys are similar to keyboard shortcuts: when you press them, something happens in Windows or in the programs you have open. So what happens when you press a key depends on what you are doing.
Useful Function Keys
Here are some common features:
- F1: open the help function
- F2: Rename a selected folder or file
- F3: Search for a file or folder
- F5: Refresh the page in an Internet program (Find and Replace in Word)
- F7: spell check (in Word)
- F8: select text, for that you have to press this key a few times (in Word)
- F10: Activate the Menu bar in the active program
- F12: Open the Save As window (in Word)
