  • Pros
  • Refined sound
  • wearing comfort
  • battery life
  • noise reduction
  • Negatives
  • Sound lacks power
  • Ears don’t stay in place
  • no app

Last year I tested Teufel wireless in-ears for the first time. The wireless headphones have become a lucrative market, from which Teufel also tried to get a share of it. Although the small size presents challenges in terms of sound quality, battery capacity and wearing comfort. Teufel overcame these challenges last year with the Airy True Wireless, but the earphones turned out to be somewhat limited in their functionality, felt a bit cheap and had to be charged via a very outdated connection.

Teufel tackles these drawbacks with this Real Blue TWS. First of all, there is (thankfully!) just a USB-c port on the charging box of the earphones. Playback modes have also been added: noise reduction and sound transmission (an ambient mode).

Only app support is missing for the time being. As a result, you cannot adjust the sound and operation yourself or provide the earphones with a firmware update.

Fit

The Teufel earphones that we tested last year still had a design like Airpods, in which a stem protrudes from the ear. This Real Blue TWS fits like a plug in your ear, which is a bit comparable to Samsung’s Galaxy Buds. Thanks to the rubber tips, you can adjust the fit to size and the low weight ensures that the ears are comfortable.

However, there is a disadvantage to the cap shape: because the weight does not seem to be distributed so well, they can come loose from your ear when you move. The Real Blue TWS earphones are therefore less suitable for activities such as running. The headset stays in place perfectly when walking and cycling.

Sound quality

Teufel is of course an audio brand, where you expect the sound quality to be in order. Especially due to the lack of an equalizer, this must be well balanced. That is certainly the case with this Real Blue TWS. Teufel has adjusted the ears in a very balanced way. High, mid and low tones are in good harmony, so that sound details remain audible.

Still, the sound lacks some power, so you have to turn the music up a bit to really get yourself excited. If you want to shake the hips or the neck loose, you can use a little more power and bass than these earphones deliver. It is nice that if you decide to increase the volume to damaging values, the sound will not be distorted and will retain its sound detail.

The Teufel earphones are an excellent choice for those who like to listen to quiet music or who often use the earphones for (video) calling, podcasts and audiobooks.

The sound is finely tuned, but lacks some power

Teufel Real Blue TWS in practice

The earphones therefore have noise reduction and a mode that allows ambient noise to pass through. You operate this by holding your finger on the earpiece for one and a half seconds. This noise reduction works well in practice. Loud, unexpected noises will continue to come through. You’re better off with headphones over your ear for that. A lot of other ambient noise is filtered out very well. For example, on the work floor or en route by train or car.

The mode that allows ambient noise to pass is useful if you want to keep up with the traffic and conversations around you. What is striking about this mode is that only sound close by is greatly amplified. It does mean that, for example, people next to you can still be heard with this mode switched on. If a person is a few meters away, they are unintelligible. Like playing the music without a play mode enabled. When you have the noise reduction on, the sound seems to sound a bit fuller than when you don’t filter ambient noise.

battery life

The battery life of the Teufel Real Blue TWS headphones is perfectly fine. If you use the earphones without noise suppression or sound transmission, you just can’t save a full working day. In practice I got out between six and a half and seven o’clock. When you have the mode on, the battery life is about five and a half hours. That is longer than most earphones, but they are not the purple battery rabbits among Bluetooth in-ears. You have to be at Samsung Galaxy Buds+ for that.

The battery capacity of the charging box is not very high and offers enough capacity to fully charge the earphones about three times.

Alternatives to the Teufel Real Blue TWS

Actually, there is little to criticize about Teufel’s ears. The sound quality is good and the same can be said about the battery life, noise reduction and fit. Would you like to put in your earphones for sports, or do you want earphones in a somewhat lower price range. Then you can also go to Samsung Galaxy Buds2 or Ear(1). The AirPods Pro offer a somewhat fuller sound, but for a higher price.

Conclusion: buy Teufel Real Blue TWS?

Thanks to the refined sound, long battery life, good noise reduction and wearing comfort, you simply have a very good headset with the Teufel Real Blue TWS. The only thing missing is an app, and an equalizer if you want to adjust the music a little more exciting. The ears are also not very firm, which makes them less suitable for sports.
