Recently, Oppo announced the Imaging Neural Processing Unit (NPU) under the name MariSilicon X. This NPU provides excellent performance for Oppo Find X smartphones, thanks in part to low power consumption and no loss of processing power in Oppo’s AI algorithms.
The MariSilicon X is built on 6nm process technology and combines an NPU, ISP and multi-tier memory architecture. This ensures high-quality and energy-efficient performance. This ensures that RAW processing is possible without the loss of quality for capturing high-quality 4K AI Night Video with live previews.
Speed
MariSilicon X’s NPU delivers 18 trillion operations per second (TOPS). This provides enough computing power to support OPPO’s AI algorithms. In addition, it delivers top performance with low battery consumption thanks to its high energy efficiency of 11.6 TOPS per watt.
Furthermore, the NPU is equipped with a special Tera bps memory subsystem. As a result, no memory is limited when the MariSilicon X uses the NPU computing power. This reduces the time required to copy data between storage and processing units. In addition, the MariSilicon X DDR contains an additional bandwidth of up to 8.5 GB/s. The multi-tier memory architecture minimizes delays and reduces power consumption.
Finally, the MariSilicon X can perform up to 20 times faster than the OPPO Find X3 Pro when the AI noise reduction algorithm is applied. It can also record 4K AI Night Videos by performing brightness enhancements on each frame in real time.

IS P
The MariSilicon X comes with a powerful ISP that captures images with a range of 20bit 120db, which is four times larger than that of the OPPO Find X3 Pro. Such images provide a 1 million:1 contrast level between the brightest and darkest areas of the image, resulting in more realistic images.
Real-time RAW processing
Thanks to its large computing power and high data throughput, MariSilicon X allows to directly perform 4K AI processing and 20bit HDR fusion at pixel level in the field of RAW. Working with original image data, MariSilicon X can achieve a signal-to-noise ratio of 8 dB for images.
RGBW Pro Mode
With the Dual Image Pipeline design and 2x RAW supersampling, MariSilicon X also takes advantage of OPPO’s RGBW sensor. By supporting separation and fusion of RGB and white signals, it results in an 8.6dB improvement in signal-to-noise ratio and a 1.7-fold improvement in texture quality. Objects come out much better this way in both photos and videos.
Development 4K AI Night Video
The MariSilicon X’s powerful performance and high energy efficiency activate AI noise reduction algorithms to enable clearer and sharper videos. MariSilicon X also offers a wider dynamic range and more colorful images. This makes it possible for the first time to process 4K AI HDR Night Video in Android smartphones.
availabilty
OPPO will launch MariSilicon X in the first quarter of 2022 on the Find X series
