Unexpectedly: Android 13 lets you stream apps on PC, here’s what it looks like

With Android 13, phones will be able to stream their apps directly on Windows, macOS, and Chrome OS. We get to see how the feature works and it goes way beyond simply mirroring content on the phone screen.

Android 13 app streaming

At the beginning of this year, Google announced during the CES fair that phones will soon be even better connected with Chromebooks. You will soon be able to open your messaging apps directly on your Chromebook. 9To5Google has now discovered in Android 13 code that Google is working on a much more ambitious system.

A Pixel phone with Android 13 can use a corresponding web application to stream all installed apps on Windows, macOS and Chrome OS. It also goes beyond screen mirroring. The web application on your PC functions as a virtual second screen. So you can simultaneously open an app on your PC and use another app on your phone at the same time.

Notifications and app drawer

We get to see videos and screenshots of this feature. To the right of the web application is a sidebar containing a feed of all notifications from your phone. At the bottom there is a button that opens an app drawer and launches any Android application. There are also a lot of buttons in the interface. You can rotate the screen, go back or close the web application. Furthermore, you can even choose the aspect ratio of the virtual phone screen. This ranges from a vertical screen to a landscape tablet screen.

Unexpectedly: Android 13 lets you stream apps on PC, here's what it looks like

All apps opened in the web application appear in a window. Similar to the way Android apps work with Chrome OS. You can also manually resize such a window, but you will notice that the animations for such an action are missing. The tools are clearly still in development, but we may see more of it in the next Android 13 testing. It’s not yet clear whether the feature will work on all phones running Android 13 or just the Pixel devices.

Android apps and Windows 11

Microsoft announced with the launch of Windows 11 that you will soon be able to use Android apps on your PC. The feature is still under development. Google responded by soon releasing the full range of Android games on Windows 11 and that will work via its own app. What do you think? Would you like to stream Android app on all possible platforms?
