Every Sunday you can read a column by John Vanderaart on pcactive.nl. Today he wonders whether you actually need Windows 11. (Due to a technical problem, the column did not appear until Monday).
Ask yourself this question: “Do I really need Windows 11?” Windows 11 is the successor of Windows 10 and that in turn is the successor of Windows 8.1, of Windows 8, of Windows 7, of Windows Vista, of Windows XP and so on… Until the Windows versions that are in our memory palace have stuck, are Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 10. Crazy, because in that sense we always skip an intermediate version. Windows Vista couldn’t compete with Windows XP, Windows 8 has hardly been installed by anyone. And now for Windows 11… Microsoft promotes Windows 11 tooth and nail, and yet few Windows 10 users are enthusiastic about it. Why should they? Windows 10 is doing fine and will be generously supported by Microsoft until 2025. And in any case, it is always smart to watch the cat out of the tree right after the release of a new Windows version. Everyone knows: “Teething on board.” Not to mention your – already somewhat older – peripherals that suddenly no longer work.
Last Sunday, John Vanderaart’s column was about the fact that his NAS suddenly broke down.

Is Windows 11 perhaps a bit over-hyped?
