Share web pages with Chrome

Chrome has a handy share menu to easily share web pages. This is possible with others, but also with yourself. Use social media, a QR code or send the link to a mobile device. We explain how these options work here.

If you want to use all options of the sharing function, it is a requirement that you are logged in to Chrome. You can do that with a Google account. If you’re signed in to Chrome, you’ll see a profile picture at the top right of the browser. Do you see a gray doll? Then you are not logged in yet.

Click on the gray figure and then choose Turn on sync† Sign up now with a Google account. Through create an account you can also register as a new user. Once you are logged in, you can optionally synchronize browsing data between different (mobile) devices. In that case, confirm your choice with Yes, turn on† click on Cancel if you prefer not to exchange data with other devices.

Share on social media

First surf with Chrome to a web page that you want to share on social media, for example a news item or travel report. Then click on the share icon on the far right of the address bar. You can recognize this icon by the arrow. There are several options in the share menu. Determine under share link on which social media website you want to publish the link. You have a choice of facebook† whatsapp† Twitter and LinkedIn†

As soon as you have made a choice, first log in to the relevant service if necessary. Then publish a post with the link. In the case of WhatsApp, you first need to scan a QR code on the computer screen using the WhatsApp app on your smartphone. WhatsApp will then open so that you can share the webpage with a friend, family member or colleague.

Create QR code

You can turn a web link into a QR code. Save this code as an image on your computer and share it, for example, by email or a chat message. As soon as your contact person scans the code with a smartphone or tablet camera, the web page opens on the mobile device. In Chrome, first go to a webpage you want to share. In the address bar, click the share icon and choose QR code† Through To download save the code as a png file.

Send to mobile device

Do you use Chrome on a smartphone and/or tablet? Then share a web link directly to this mobile device. This way you can view the relevant webpage again at another time. For example, when you get on a train or plane later in the day. One condition is that you are signed in to the Chrome app with a Google account.

In the browser on your computer, surf to a web page that you want to share. Then click on the share icon in the address bar and choose Send to your devices† Now click on the smartphone or tablet to which you want to forward the web address. The website opens as a new tab on the mobile device.

Other sharing options

Chrome’s share menu has even more options for sharing a web page. With the option Link head. copy the web address, so that you can paste the url in an email, for example. Furthermore, the option cast interesting. Sends the webpage to a Chromecast-enabled device. For example, consider a Google Chromecast media streamer or suitable smart TV.
