If you visit some sites regularly, it is useful if you can put the links on your desktop or home screen. This is done on your PC as well as on your smartphone. You can quickly find your favorite sites if you create sites as a shortcut. You can read here how to do this in the most common browsers.

Drag to your desktop

The easiest way to place a site as a shortcut on your desktop actually works the same way in all browsers. So easy! The following method applies to Chrome, Edge, and Firefox.

Make sure the browser is not open in full screen so that you can see your desktop behind it. Now click in the address bar on the lock for the url of the site and keep the mouse button pressed. Now you can drag the site to your desktop and the shortcut will be created.

In Safari for Mac it works about the same, but then you can select and drag the entire URL. So you don’t have to look for the lock.

In Chrome

In Chrome there is another way to easily link to any website. When you have found the website of your choice in Chrome, click on the 3 dots to the right of the browser bar. In the menu that follows, go to More Tools† Then click in the menu that now expands to the left on Create quick link.

A new window will suggest a name for the website on the desktop. Leave this alone or type a new name in the box. Then click To make and your link is on your desktop.

Create shortcut in Windows 10

For all Windows users, there is a common way to save a web link to your desktop. To do this, go to the website you want as a shortcut in your browser. Click on the address bar, select the entire address and copy it (Ctrl+C).

Then go to the Desktop and right-click on an empty space. Click now New, Shortcut and on the empty space where the link should be placed (at Specify the location of the item† Then paste (Ctrl+V) the link there and click on Next one† Determine a handy name and then click Complete†

Website on home screen smartphone (Android and iOS)

Your phone’s home screen isn’t just for apps. Just like on your PC desktop, you can also save links to it. On your android phone For example, you can do this by opening Chrome. Then click on the menu button and on Add to home screen† Now you can name the link and add it to your home screen. This works almost the same with other popular browsers (such as Firefox).

You can also save a website to your home screen with your iOS device. To do this, use the Safari browser and go to the website you want to save. On the toolbar of the browser, click on the Share button, that is the rectangle with the up arrow. Then click on your Add to home screen†
