Samsung Galaxy S22 Series Receives ‘CIS’ Update

Samsung is rolling out an update for the Galaxy S22, the Galaxy S22 Plus and the Galaxy S22 Ultra that contains a number of improvements that address the criticism surrounding Samsung’s Game Optimization Services tool.

In the changelog of the update we see a whole series of improvements that have to do with gaming on the phones in the S22 series. For example, there is now a solution for the controversial Game Optimization Services app. That app was discredited two weeks ago because it reduces the performance of 10,000 popular apps on Galaxy phones. This GOS app is not installed on every Samsung phone, but various Androidworld readers have already confirmed that the app in question can also be seen on Dutch Samsung phones, and causes hiccups in some apps. Samsung also denies that the performance in apps from the list of 10,000 apps and games is reduced.

Samsung quickly released a statement stating that it wants to roll out an update in the Game Booster lab as soon as possible. It allows S22 owners to choose “whether or not to prioritize high-performance.” So the update is here now. After the update, the Galaxy S22 will no longer limit CPU and GPU performance, according to the changelog. This only happens during ‘the initial phase’, so as long as the phone does not get too hot.

In addition, Game Booster gets a new mode. To do this, tap in the Game Launcher bottom right on More† and there are improvements for the camera and overall stability improvements. If you haven’t already done so in the Galaxy Store, this update will ensure that certain Samsung apps are updated to the latest version. Examples of those Samsung apps are the drawing app PENUP, SmartThings and the voice recorder. The security level of the phones will remain at March.

The update will be rolled out over-the-air to the Galaxy S22 series and once it’s in you’ll see a notification in the notification bar. You can also manually search for the update: Settings > Software update > Download and install.
