Second MT-09 and Tracer 9 Recall: ECU misprogrammed

For the second time in a short time, Yamaha has rolled out a recall for the MT-09 (SP) and Tracer 9 (GT). The ECU has been programmed incorrectly, which may limit throttle response under certain conditions, cause the engine to stall, or not illuminate the warning light.

Second MT-09 and Tracer 9 Recall: ECU misprogrammed

The 2021-2022 MT-09, MT-09 SP, Tracer 9 and Tracer 9 GT have been found to have a defect for the second time in a short period of time, leading to a recall. In last week’s recall, the problem was the throttle grip, which could break and stick, this time it’s the ECU whose software has not been properly programmed.

A number of problems can arise as a result of incorrect programming. For example, the engine may stall if the clutch is not fully engaged or the throttle is slightly open during downshifts.

In addition, there may be limited throttle response when the throttle is fully closed during deceleration, which would be accompanied by an illuminated engine management warning light.

In another situation, however, it could also be that the engine management warning light does not illuminate in the event of a component or system error. Any of these situations could lead to a crash in the worst case scenario.

The ECU will be provided with new software at the Yamaha dealer, the advice is to leave the engine until then and only use it to bring it to the dealer.
