Samsung is breathing new life into a Galaxy S model from two years ago. The Galaxy S21 FE came onto the market in January as the last variant of the Galaxy S21 series, but a few months later, Samsung is remarkably enough to release its predecessor: the S20 FE 2022.

It is precisely about a Galaxy S20 FE 5G that will be marketed under a new name in Samsung’s home country South Korea, you know that naver† The Galaxy S20 FE appears with a Snapdragon 865 chipset and therefore works with a 5G modem. It has a 6.5-inch AMOLED screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a camera setup consisting of three lenses. The device comes with a 12 MP main camera with optical image stabilization, an 8 MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and a 12 MP wide-angle camera.

In other words, the phone is exactly the same as the original, only it no longer comes with a charger and a pair of AKG earphones in the box. Since the Galaxy S21, Samsung no longer supplies it in its flagships. The S20 FE 2022 can count on Samsung’s update policy with five years of security updates. It is not clear whether the phone will also become more widely available and we have therefore asked Samsung Netherlands for more clarity.

Win win situation

It may seem strange that a two-year-old phone suddenly comes back on the market, but it isn’t. A two-year-old flagship is far from being written off in the technological field and the telephone also costs the consumer less than the original: converted 525 euros instead of 749 euros.

At the same time, Samsung itself wins, because it has made no extra effort for the development of the device. It only needs to provide updates and possibly this step can even ensure that the original can be updated for longer without an extra effort for the manufacturer.

What do you think of the ‘rebranding’ of the Galaxy S20 FE? Do you think it’s a good idea for older models to re-enter the market at a lower price? Let us know in the comments at the bottom of this article.
