Today you could read that Apple plans to remove Apps that have not been updated for two years from the App Store. The idea is that developers should take care to provide their applications with new updates.
But in some cases, there are just App Store games released a few years ago that just work the way they should. Updates are simply not necessary. I dug into my own archive of games and these are five absolute top players that have not been updated for over two years. So that would mean they are about to be deleted.
Five App Store games about to be removed
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VII is my favorite game ever. I originally played the game on the PlayStation and a few years ago I really got into the Remake. A few years ago, the game also appeared on the App Store. That way I had the opportunity to play the game anytime, anywhere. The touchscreen controls are quite okay and you have the opportunity to enjoy the story. But this is one of those typical game that is delivered by Square Enix and just works as it should. Then you don’t have to update it. As a result, this is a game at risk of being removed.

GTA Vice City
GTA Vice City is also a classic that has found its way to the App Store. Originally I had fun with it on the PlayStation 2 and so I really wanted to relive it. To be fair, this game does not work very well on the iPhone. Sometimes it is really too much fiddling to aim properly, so that you die a little more often than you would like. But driving around in the different cars while listening to classical music is possible. At the moment anyway, because this too is a title that has not been done with for years and can therefore be removed.

Rollercoaster Tycoon Classic
Every year I have the urge to play Rollercoaster Tycoon. Nice old school game on your gaming device. Since a few years it has been possible to download Rollercoaster Tycoon Classic via the App Store. That way you can build your favorite park on the iPhone and iPad. Here too, the performance is not always good and you often make a mistake with the touchscreen when building a roller coaster. So there is certainly a bit of frustration with it, but I would still recommend it. But I don’t know if you can play it in a month or two. Oo this is a title that really hasn’t been used for a long time.

XCOM: Enemy Within
XCOM: Enemy Within is a strategy game that has since received a sequel. This game can also be played on, for example, the iPad. Do you have a slightly older model? Then this game is still highly recommended. It’s a title that just works well. The strategic battles are still very rewarding years after its original release and the possibilities to improve yourself are extensive. You’ve had the story at some point, but it’s still fun to start new games and see how you defeat the enemies on the battlefield as effectively as possible. It’s a game that just works the way it’s supposed to work and that’s why it hasn’t been updated for years.

Civilization Revolution 2
The Civilization series is one that has been top notch on PC for quite some time now. Civilization VI has also been ported to the iPad and was recently updated. But with Civilization Revolution 2 you have a game that works slightly better on the tablet. The game was originally released on the console and is therefore slightly less in-depth. And because of that, he also asks a little less from the iPad. If you have an older model, this game would work well on it. Provided Apple does not throw it off the App Store, because this game has not been tinkered with for a while.

In short, there are a lot of fun games that just haven’t been done anymore when the game worked as it should. As a developer you can then release a nonsense update, but then you will actually be providing nonsense work. As far as I’m concerned, Apple can throw this App Store rule in the trash very quickly!
