Samsung today announced the new portable SSD T7 Shield. This super-fast SSD with the size of a bank card is reliable, fast, robust, solid, water and dust resistant, as shown in our review.

The T7 Shield is the latest addition to the Samsung T7 Portable SSD lineup, which also includes the Samsung T7 and the T7 Touch. As with these SSDs, there is reliable performance and that goes together with a handy design, the size of a bank card. PC-Active 324 will be released around 13 May, containing a review of the robust and durable Samsung T7 Shield.

IP65 certified reliability
The T7 Shield is Samsung’s most durable SSD to date. It is therefore very suitable for traveling or if you often create content outdoors. You can lose a lot of data without having to worry about weather conditions or other setbacks. The T7 Shield can withstand falls of up to three meters and is water and dust resistant thanks to the IP65 certification. Despite the solid design, the T7 Shield is compact. It is the size of a bank card and weighs no more than 98 grams.

Performance
The T7 Shield has a read speed of 1,050 megabytes per second (MB/s) and a write speed of 1,000 MB/s. Not only are these the fastest transfer rates currently available for the USB 3.2 Gen2 standard, it’s also about two times faster than its predecessor, the T5, and even 9.5 times faster than external hard disk drives (HDDs). In short, with the T7 Shield you save a lot of time.
The T7 Shield is also very efficient at transferring large files. No lag, no overheating, even when transferring 2 TB files directly.

Wide Compatibility and Strong Security
Samsung’s T7 Shield works with multiple devices. You can store huge amounts of photos, games and videos (4K and 8K) on a PC, Mac, smartphone (Android) or game console. In addition, the T7 Shield is equipped with security (*256-bit AES, Advanced Encryption Standard) with hardware encryption. This means that your data is safe even if you have lost your T7 Shield. You also have access to Samsung’s Magician Software, which makes it easy to manage your drive.

More environmentally conscious packaging
The T7 Shield uses only a third of the packaging material compared to previous editions.

Price and availability
The T7 Shield, both 1TB and 2TB, is available in beige, black and blue. The drive comes with a USB Type-C-to-C cable and a USB Type-C-to-A cable. The warranty is valid for three years. The T7 Shield is available worldwide starting today for suggested retail prices of €169.99 (1TB) and €319.99 (2TB).
