The first people to walk on the moon had to bring their own air: Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin in July 1969 carried backpacks that supplied them with pure oxygen. They could have breathed outside the lander for a maximum of 6.5 hours. Of course, their only “moonwalk” was over after 2 hours and 32 minutes.
