The ipod

The tech world is changing rapidly. What was a great feature yesterday is worth nothing today. Also at Apple there are several features that we have completely forgotten. We list them.
When we talk about tech, Apple is of course one of the big players. The company introduced several features and devices that were subsequently adopted by the rest of the market. However, many have fallen into oblivion.
Apple’s Forgotten Features
Now get ready for a trip down memory lane. OMT editor Jeroen Kraak takes you through the world of forgotten Apple features, where you say a big o yes after reading!
iPod
Let’s start with the gadget that everyone has had: the iPod. The 2001 MP3 player came in different shapes and sizes. Steve Jobs called it a device that carried 1,000 songs in your pocket. The first was of course quite hefty, but over time they got smaller and thinner, like the Touch and the Nano.
In the end, they looked exactly like an iPhone, but without a call function. The latter was also the end of the iPod. Because why make an MP3 player, when you can already do everything with your iPhone? Then of course you will not take an extra device with you.

3D Touch
I’m a fan of 3D, but 3D Touch? I hardly used the function on the iPhone myself. It’s such a quintessential feature that is fun to use for a while, but then fades into oblivion. It first became available on the iPhone 6S in 2015. According to Apple, this was a feature that made operating the iPhone easier.
By pressing harder on an icon on the screen you could open a menu. Today it is simpler. You keep the icon pressed for a while and a new screen will appear automatically. With the XR, Apple decided to scrap it again.

The headphone jack
Ai, this is a feature that many people still miss a lot. Apple decided to remove the headphone jack with the arrival of the iPhone 7. In the future, earphones had to be connected via the lighting connection. Of course a very clever trick from Apple, because everyone who did not want to use the earphones from Apple had to buy a special adapter.
Apple called the change good and said the new design was better for the user. Judge for yourself whether it is. Of course it has a big advantage. It is even easier to make the device waterproof.

aperture
I can well imagine that you missed this feature for your Mac from 2005. For that computer, it was an ideal program to sort your photos based on faces, places and other keywords. Of course, you can also edit them quickly.
In fact, it is a kind of precursor of what you can now do with your iPhone. Apple finally gave up on it in 2014.

The i of Apple
Of course we still have the iPhone, iPod and iPad, but slowly the letter seems to disappear with the various products. It was pretty amazing that Apple’s smartwatch isn’t called an iWatch, it’s called the Apple Watch.
In addition, we also saw other devices that do not have i such as AirPods, HomePod and Apple TV. However, Apple will probably not tamper with the iPhone since it is a real concept. This is not the case with services. It’s not iFitness, iTV or iMusic.

iWeb
Speaking of the i, what about iWeb? It was the platform to easily create websites and blogs without using complicated code. All tools were easy to use. In addition, it was also very simple to embed YouTube and Google Maps, for example.
Eventually, several annoying bugs and key features were not supported, which prompted Apple to pull the plug in 2012.
Intel and Apple
We go from i to the i of Intel. This is an event of recent years. Before the Macs, Apple always used Intel processors, but it still got rid of the old familiar. Apple decided to dig deep and build its own chip for the MacBooks and iMacs. Something it has of course done before with the iPhone and iPad. And it turns out to be a great success.
The newer Macbooks are fantastically fast. There is still one drawback. Not all apps work equally well with Apple’s processor. Still, it gets better every year and companies like Adobe are now making special versions for the Apple M chips.
