What is the difference between a cyclone, a typhoon, a hurricane, …

Asker: Luke, 40 years old

Answer

There is no difference.
Hurricane comes from the English “Hurricane”. Thus, the origin of this term is a storm god among the Maya. This term is therefore mainly used for tropical cyclones in the Atlantic Ocean.
The origin of typhoon is not so clear. Does it come from Chinese, Arabic or Greek.
Typhoon is used for tropical cyclones in the Asian part of the Pacific Ocean.
Cyclone is a general term to indicate low pressure areas that spiral because of the Coriolis effect. You have polar cyclones, extratropical cyclones, subtropical cyclones and tropical cyclones.
