Everything you need to know about Apple Arcade: Apple’s gaming service

Apple Arcade is the game service of the iPhone maker. The subscription was launched three years ago and offers the possibility to play mobile games with the whole family for a fixed monthly fee. OMT editor Sabine explains everything there is to know about the service!

Are you a casual gamer and do you like to play a game on your mobile? Apple Arcade lets you play a ton of free mobile games without distractions. Those annoying commercials and temptation to buy that one new level are a thing of the past with this service. And the best part is, you can get started on just about any Apple device out there and play with the whole family at the same time.

Apple Arcade: This is what you need to know

Mobile games are booming. Globally, more than three billion gamers are expected by 2023, 2.5 billion of which will be on mobile. Apple’s game service packed with mobile games is therefore not that crazy. Here’s everything you need to know about Apple Arcade.

What can you do with Apple Arcade?

Apple Arcade lets you play a selection of games on iPhone, iPad, AppleTV and Mac. There are no ads in those games and no money-guzzling in-app purchases apply. There are currently more than two hundred games included in the subscription and new games are added every week.

Unfortunately, that also means that occasionally some games disappear from the service. It will then be possible to continue playing the game that Apple deleted if you have it installed on your iPhone or other Apple device.

How do you become a member?

You can sign up for the game service by opening the App Store on your iPhone, iPad, Apple TV or Mac. Open the tab Apple Arcade and press Try for free to start a one month trial. After the trial period, the subscription costs 4.99 euros per month. The payment screen will then appear and you can confirm the subscription.

At the moment you can only choose to pay per month here, but you can later change this in the settings of your iPhone or iPad to a payment per year. Press at the top at the Settings on your avatar and choose Subscriptions and then Apple Arcade. Press at the top View all subscriptions. Here you can choose an annual payment. This costs 49.99 euros per year.

Is it worth it?

It’s hard to say whether Apple Arcade is for you. If you’re a hardcore gamer, you’ll probably enjoy gaming services like Xbox Game Pass, Dteam, Google Stadia or the revamped PlayStation Plus. Apple Arcade is more for the casual gamer and even for the whole family. You can create a total of six individual accounts for the service.
