How much CO2 do I produce (on average) as a cyclist per kilometer?

Stopping breathing is not an option. But if a car emits an average of 235 g per kilometer, then as a cyclist I sometimes want to put myself next to that.

Answer

How many grams of CO2 your emissions while cycling depend on how fast you cycle. The faster you cycle, the higher your metabolism and the more you breathe, so the more CO2 your emissions. How much CO2/km I can’t say your emissions, but let’s have this fun fact: a normal person produces an average of 450l (=900 g) of CO in one day2. So if you drive 4 km by car, you already have more CO2 blown into the air than a human being in a whole day. Of course you don’t hold your breath while driving, so you can add that too.

Riding the bike, even heavily panting, puffing and CO2-producing, will always be more environmentally friendly than driving a car.
