I have the impression (I am not from bachten de kupe myself, but a descendant of) that certain words in the Westhoek have been influenced by English:
eg.
article ‘a’ –> ‘è’
mousetrap: ‘muse-trape’
nowhere: ‘nowers’
etc.
Is this correct? How come? (something to do with WWII?) and why only in the Westhoek?

Answer
This indeed has to do with the presence of the English soldiers in WW I and the front line was in the Westhoek.
