To what extent do the elderly have a say in the affairs of the rest home where they stay?

Asker: Caroline, age 18

Answer

Participation of the elderly in the retirement home is in principle a matter of human rights – for an overview see: elderly and human rights, on www.mensenrechten.be

In practice, concrete measures often still need to be taken. This is currently provided for in the Flemish policy plan for the elderly. You can do this at www.vlaanderen.be. A rights explorer has also been placed on this site, where you can ask a specific question depending on the municipality in which you live.
