Answer

Hi Onah,

There are many different types of satchels.

Let’s start with the “modern” satchels, the popular backpacks and shoulder bags that most school children use. These are usually made of polyamide (Nylon) or polyester. These are plastics that are very similar to natural materials such as cotton, wool or silk, only they are much stronger.

The classic satchels with handles are usually made of either leather (split leather or grain leather) or of artificial leather. Artificial leather is actually a fabric or knitted fabric in cotton, polyamide, polyester, glass fibers or a mixture of these, on which a thin layer of PVC, acrylic, silicone, polyurethane or rubber is applied. By pressing into this layer of grain, it looks very good on leather.

The insides of the satchels are usually lined with polyester or polyamide again, and for the dividers there is sometimes a sturdy cardboard (or sometimes a harder plastic) between the layers as reinforcement.

So, I hope this answers your question.
