Dear Brit,
But watch out for skating on puddles and watercourses. For example, reeds in the water can create places where the ice is too thin. Also, the sides of streams and pools are often thinner than elsewhere. A safe thickness is 12 cm, but that is not achieved so quickly !!! Also, never ignore prohibition signs that the municipality or the waterway service puts up regarding skating bans.
In short, for your safety it is better to have a skating rink.
