Does the Moon affect Earth’s temperature?

If the Moon were closer or farther from Earth, would Earth’s temperature change?

Answer

That matters very little.

It is true that the Moon plays a little mirror for the sunlight towards Earth, as well as a reflector of Earth’s radiation itself, but not very much. The energy that the Moon reflects on the Earth is less than a millionth of the energy we receive directly from the sun.

In both cases, the farther the Moon is, the smaller the increase in temperature. But in all cases it is small.

A third effect is the tides. As a result, the seas on Earth are set in motion, and that also causes some heat development. Again the effect is greater the closer the Moon is.
