I bought jars with red and green colored small fasciculatum peppers in a flower shop. Are these edible, and are the variants edible? I can’t find an answer on the internet.
Answer
The peppers from the flower shop are varieties with beautifully colored fruits and/or leaves. Most peppers belong to Capsicum annuum, but because there are so many varieties, subspecies and hybrids, there are quite a few synonyms in circulation. Capsicum fasciculatum or Capsicum annuum var. fasciculatum you are talking about here are therefore synonyms of Capsicum annuum. Are they edible? Yes, but be aware 1) often quite spicy and 2) the standards for growing ornamental plants in terms of pesticide residues are not at all comparable to the standards for growing consumer goods.
